Preventive & gynecologic

Well-woman & gynecologic care

The annual gyn exam is the anchor of preventive women's health. It is where risk is assessed, screening happens on schedule, and small concerns get addressed before they become large ones.

  • Annual gyn exam — vital signs, history review, physical and pelvic exam, tailored to your age and risk profile.
  • Pap test & cervical cancer screening — with HPV co-testing where indicated. Caught early, cervical cancer is highly treatable.
  • Clinical breast exam — examination for lumps and other changes, with mammogram referral based on your age, history and symptoms.
  • Colposcopy — close examination of the cervix following an abnormal Pap result, with biopsy when needed. Performed in office.
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding — evaluation of heavy, irregular, prolonged or post-menopausal bleeding, and treatment of the underlying cause.
  • STI screening — confidential testing and treatment.
Preventive care
Family planning

Reproductive health

Pregnancy & family planning

Whether you are planning for a pregnancy, preventing one, or have just found out you are pregnant, care starts with an unhurried conversation about what you actually want.

  • Contraceptive management — the full range of options reviewed against your health history, goals and preferences, with initiation, monitoring and changes.
  • Preconception counselling — optimising health before conception: chronic conditions, medications, nutrition, folic acid, vaccination and genetic risk.
  • Pregnancy testing — with same-visit counselling on next steps whatever the result.
  • Early prenatal care — dating, initial labs, risk assessment and the first weeks of care, with coordinated referral for delivery.
  • Prenatal testing — screening and diagnostic options explained in plain language so you can decide what is right for you.

As a Certified Nurse Midwife with decades of experience, Dr. Stedford brings a midwifery model of care to this stage of life: informed, patient-led and unhurried.

Midlife health

Menopause & midlife care

Perimenopause and menopause are not something to endure quietly. Symptoms are treatable, and this stage of life is also the moment to get ahead of long-term risks.

  • Symptom management — hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, mood changes, vaginal dryness and painful intercourse.
  • Treatment options — hormonal and non-hormonal approaches reviewed against your personal risk profile.
  • Bone health — osteoporosis risk assessment and bone density screening.
  • Cardiometabolic health — blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes screening, an area of particular expertise as a Certified Diabetes Educator.
  • Mood & wellbeing — screening and support for depression and anxiety through the transition.
Midlife & beyond
Wellness & conditions

Wellness & chronic conditions

Weight management, PCOS & fibroids

  • Medically supervised weight management — an individualised plan combining nutrition, activity, behavioural support and, where clinically appropriate, medication. Underlying causes such as thyroid disease and insulin resistance are ruled out first.
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) — diagnosis and long-term management of irregular cycles, insulin resistance, unwanted hair growth, acne and fertility concerns.
  • Uterine fibroids — evaluation of heavy bleeding, pelvic pressure and pain, with medical management and coordinated surgical referral when needed.
  • Diabetes & metabolic health — screening, education and ongoing management from a Certified Diabetes Educator.

Often unspoken, always treatable

Urinary & sexual health

These are among the most common concerns women bring to us — and among the least often raised. There is no wrong thing to ask here.

  • Urinary incontinence — evaluation of stress, urge and mixed incontinence, with pelvic floor therapy, behavioural strategies and medical treatment.
  • Urinary care — recurrent urinary tract infections, bladder irritation and overactive bladder.
  • Sexual health — painful intercourse, low libido, vaginal dryness, and confidential discussion of any concern affecting intimacy.
  • Infection care — evaluation and treatment of vaginitis, bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections.
Confidential care
Ages 13–21

Ages 13–21

Adolescent & teenage gynecology

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends a first gynecologic visit between ages 13 and 15. It is an important step — and, done well, a reassuring one.

We provide compassionate, age-appropriate care for adolescents in a comfortable, non-intimidating environment, addressing the concerns particular to young women: menstrual issues, vaccination, and confidential conversations about reproductive health.

What a first visit actually involves

  • A conversation, not a pelvic exam. The provider gets to know your teen and answers her questions.
  • Topics may include menstrual health, hygiene, HPV vaccination, nutrition and healthy development.
  • Pelvic exams are performed only when medically necessary.
  • Parents are welcome in the room, or can step out — whichever suits the teen's comfort level.
  • Part of the visit may be conducted privately so sensitive topics can be raised openly. Teens are welcome to attend with a parent or on their own.

The HPV vaccine is recommended starting at age 11–12 and is most effective when given before any exposure to the virus.

Virtual visits

Telehealth

Many visits do not need to happen in an exam room. Telehealth appointments give you the same provider and the same continuity of care, from home, work or anywhere in New York State.

Well suited to telehealth

  • Follow-up visits and chronic condition check-ins
  • Medication management and prescription refills
  • Lab and imaging result reviews
  • Contraceptive counselling and management
  • Menopause symptom management
  • Nutrition, weight and lifestyle counselling
  • Mental health check-ins

How it works

  1. Request an appointment online or by phone and tell us you would prefer a virtual visit.
  2. Our office confirms the time and sends you a secure video link.
  3. Join from a phone, tablet or computer at your appointment time — no software to buy.
  4. Prescriptions, referrals and lab orders are sent electronically the same day.

Telehealth is not appropriate for emergencies, or for visits that require a physical exam, an in-office procedure or specimen collection. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.
